To the Gornergrat by Rail (Matterhorn)

Almost 2000 locomotives of the BR44 class were built between 1929 and 1949. After 1945, the Deutsche Bundesbahn took over 1242 of these super-heavyweights, and 335 went to the (then East German) Reichsbahn. Between 1949 and 1952 the Bundesbahn had to turn over 344 engines to the French State Railways.

By the early ‘60s, more than 500 of these magnificent steam locomotives were still in the service of Deutsche Bundesbahn - this number dwindled down to 300 by 1970 and shrank to 140 in 1975. By 1979 the fabulous BR 44s had reached the end of the line.

This engaging DVD will bring back the thrill and awe of a great steam locomotive. You’ll enjoy the picturesque, scenic locations with breathtaking run-by shots and the inclusion of many rare historical clips.
